"The AI Art Community" by Christine Graves via NightCafe Studio
I am a proud member of the AI Art Community. I always wanted to create beautiful works of art, but I can't draw for anything. I suck at it. I can do paint by number, I can add color to black and white images (I'm a huge coloring book fan), I know how to crochet and sew, and I've been doing crafts for decades. I just can't draw and it breaks my heart.
I discovered AI art a few years back when it was still in its infancy. I started out on a site called ThisPersonDoesNotExist.com. It doesn't exist anymore either, but it was a blast when I first started using it. It was an AI program that created human faces. Some were very good, some had a few glitches (mismatched earrings, different colored eyes, stuff like that), and some were...um, interesting.
I'm not sure where it's at, but somewhere I have a file that I kept a lot of the images I created there. One of them was a picture of a young man with a huge smile on his face, as if looking in a camera. To his right, is another person who only has about half of their face in the image. But, upon closer look, you notice that there is an eyeball looking at you...from her mouth. It's weird, but kinda cool at the same time.
(Wholly buckets, I found it)
"Watch Your Mouth" by Christine Graves
I created that image in December of 2020. I've been doing this for almost 6 years. Wow. The images I make now are so much better, and yes, I know that's because of the AI programs and not my own talents. However, I have learned a lot about creating AI art prompts.
I joined NightCafe Studio almost four years ago. It's my favorite platform, and I've created thousands of images with it. It was here that I found a real community. People who enjoyed showing off their own images, while enjoying the images of other artists. It's wonderful.
One of the best parts of NightCafe is the challenges. I compete in the daily challenge, as well as a few other random challenges. It's so much fun to see how others interpret the prompts or ideas in each challenge.
I found another great AI Art Community on X. Now, mind you, I'm not a huge X fan. I've had an account since 2008, and yet I rarely use it. I started using it again here a few months ago, when I found several different AI Art groups. I will admit, this community is a lot more close-knit than NightCafe.
I know there are a lot of people out there who don't believe that AI art is real art. I have a friend who is an amazing artist, but reminds me on a regular basis that I'm not the one making the art, the computer is. She's never mean about it, but I get it. As a writer, I felt threatened by the wave of AI-written content.
Though I can't speak for all AI artists, I love the fact that I can finally create beautiful works of art, images for my blog posts, and enjoy the company of like-minded people who have the same passion as I.
Are you part of the AI Art Community? If so, let me know where you create your work and if you have a storefront. I'd love to come and visit.
Until next time,
Mom Graves!!!
